Next Generation Ballet Summer Intensive Experience
At the Next Generation Ballet Summer Intensive, I served as a Resident Assistant, looking out for the students at the intensive and also attending the program as a full-time student, dancing in three to five classes every day. I helped chaperone students to various theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios, planned weekly activities for students, assisted with student injuries, difficulties, and conflict, and worked a part-time job on my off-hours. Through this program, I learned invaluable foundational leadership and organizational skills that I will carry with me throughout my schooling and future career. I was often directing and instructing a group of students, and I experimented with the best methods to communicate and imbue respect. I also learned that humility and willingness to adapt is a necessary skill that will be rewarding in any job. As students brought struggles to me, I learned how to change what I was doing if necessary to make their time at the intensive more enjoyable and safer. I also saw the practice of discipline truly pay off in my own training at the intensive. I attended nearly every class, and often practiced alone in the studios as well, only to come back to the College Conservatory of Music this semester a much stronger, healthier, and more confident dancer.
